Born in 1983 in Colmar (France), Florent Nisse started studying double bass at the age of six. He began with classical studies, before discovering jazz at the age of fifteen. In 2002 he moved to Lyon in order to attend an engineering school. While studying science he never stoped his musical studies, and finally got in 2007 three degrees, one in mechanics, one in classical music, and one in jazz music. Very active on Lyon’s jazz scene at that time, Florent chose to give up science and to follow his musical career.
In 2008 he enrolled in Paris Conservatory (CNSM) in Jazz, in Riccardo Del Fra’s class. He graduated in 2011. During this period, Florent studied with Hervé Sellin, Pierre de Bethmann, François Théberge, Dré Pallemaerts, Glenn Ferris and Riccardo Del Fra. He also had the opportunity to work with major musicians of today’s scene, like Larry Grenadier, Fred Hersch, Drew Gress, Wynton Marsalis, or Billy Hart...
Professionally, Florent Nisse started his career in Lyon before moving in Paris in 2008. There he quickly became part of the rising generation of jazz musicians, and had the opportunity to perform both with some of French major artists (Michel Portal, Emile Parisien, Yaron Herman, Sylvain Rifflet, Pierrick Pedron, David Enhco) and international ones (Seamus Blake, Joachim Kühn, Logan Richardson, Gilad Hekselman, Aaron Parks, Jeff Ballard, Jorge Rossy). Today, Florent is one of the most demanded bass player in Paris, and played on more than twenty recordings.
From 2009 on, Florent Nisse has been co-leading the avant-guarde quartet Flash Pig, and he released in 2014 « Aux Mages », his first album as a leader with a quintet featuring the american saxophone player Chris Cheek and the danish guitar player Jakob Bro.
